Rumi Bunya Design is an architecture-led interior design studio creating thoughtful, individual homes. Each project begins with curiosity and collaboration, resulting in spaces that feel considered, authentic and genuinely connected to the people who live in them.

Rumi's perspective has been shaped by an international life across Japan, Los Angeles, London and the wider UK. Growing up in Japan has had a lasting influence on the way she thinks about space — from efficiency and thoughtful organisation to balance, practicality and the relationship between a home and everyday wellbeing. These principles inform the way she designs rather than defining a particular aesthetic; every interior responds individually to its architecture, setting and inhabitants.

Rumi's design path began in Los Angeles, where the craft of film sets first sparked her interest in how spaces tell stories. She later trained at UCLA and The Inchbald School of Design, developing her approach through experience in LA and London studios before establishing her own practice in 2016.

What draws Rumi to design is not luxury for its own sake, but the creation of well-considered, beautifully crafted spaces. Whether guided by a building's architecture or a homeowner's sensibilities, her work balances aesthetics with the practical realities of everyday life. Meticulous attention to detail, proportion, materiality and function underpin an approach that is considered yet flexible.

Today, Rumi Bunya Design works with homeowners, architects and developers across Birmingham, Warwickshire and London on renovations and extensions. We develop interiors from spatial planning through lighting, kitchens and bathrooms, bespoke joinery, materials and furnishings, remaining hands-on throughout the process and committed to making it clear, collaborative and enjoyable.
